A crowd of 478 saw the Brakes take a ninth minute lead through Rob Thompson-Brown. Ten minutes later, and ex-Kettering man Courtney Baker-Richardson had doubled the host's lead.
The Poppies failed to make any inroads into the scoreline, and were killed off when Thompson-Brown converted from the penalty spot with 17 minutes to go after Ahmed Obeng had been brought down.
Dorchester Town pushed Hayes & Yeading United further towards a second successive relegation after winning 2-1 at the Avenue Stadium and move ten points clear of the drop zone.
Jake Mawford gave the Magpies a great start with a goal inside the opening two minutes. Anthony Edgar`s spot-kick pulled the visitors back on level terms 10 minutes before the break. And that looked like being enough for a valuable point for United, until Phil Ormond popped up with Dorchester`s winner five minutes from time.
The Chesham United and Frome Town, the teams occupying seventh and eighth place respectively, shared a 1-1 draw at the Meadow.
The spectators had to wait until the final eight minutes to see a goal – and then two came along in two minutes as Sam Youngs put the Generals in front and Aidan Kirby equalised.
The point did neither side much good in their attempts to make the top five, with Chesham now eight points adrift and Frome ten.
