Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Chippenham Town moved four points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division table after beating Chesham United 3-1 at Hardenhuish Park on Tuesday night, writes Steve Whitney.

The Generals, with games in hand on all above them, were looking to put pressure on the top five, but fell behind to a 19th minute Andy Sandell effort. Top scorer Sandell made it 2-0 with his 25th goal of the season to date from the penalty spot – his eighth successful spot-kick conversion.

And it was game over 10 minutes into the second half when Matt Smith added the Bluebirds` third, although the visitors did manage a 72nd minute consolation from Adam Martin.

Fifth-placed Slough Town moved four points clear of sixth-placed Banbury United after a comfortable 3-0 win at Arbour Park against mid-table Weymouth.

A crowd of 612 saw the Rebels get off to a great start when Gavin James put them in front from the spot inside four minutes after he had been adjudged to have been fouled in the box. Slough led by that one goal at the break but just eight minutes into the second period, Chris Flood doubled their advantage.

Weymouth, who hit six last weekend, were put completely out of this contest when James grabbed his second and Slough`s third in the 86th minute.

Tuesday`s other game saw second-bottom Hayes & Yeading United earn a point from a goalless draw with tenth-placed Biggleswade Town at Beaconsfield`s Holloways Park.
