Well-wishers thanked for support

Bedford Town are thanking the well-wishers who continue to send messages of support to skipper Tommy Hull after he was taken ill with a heart scare during their derby day draw at Dunstable Town in the EVO-STIK League Southern on Saturday.

The Eagles sent their thanks to the Non-League community after play was stopped with 15 minutes to play of the 2-2 draw at Creasey Park with their captain, pictured, complaining of breathing difficulties and chest pain.

After being stretchered off and taken away by ambulance after leaving the ground on his feet, the 26-year-old former Barton Rovers, Kettering Town, Royston, Stotfold and Stevenage Borough defender spent Saturday night in hospital and is said to be "doing well" at home this week after his heart's rhythms were checked by a 24-hour electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor.

In a statement on the Eagles website updating fans on his condition, the club said: “The club would like to thank everyone for their messages of support from the Non-League community, following the distressing events for club captain Tommy Hull. We would like to reassure that all well wishes are being passed on to Tommy where possible.

"The club would like to stress, despite online speculation, that Tommy did not collapse and remained conscious throughout the episode. Around the 70th minute, his chest felt heavy and breathing was difficult, but did not suffer to the extent that has been reported in certain online pieces.

“The club would also like to pay thanks to AFC Dunstable for their assistance with Tommy’s situation and thank Bianca Hewer, John Bell and all the medical team for their help.”

Eagles boss Jon Taylor added: “We all hope Tommy makes a swift recovery. As club captain, he will be a miss to our important team spirit, but he knows we are all behind him in however long his recovery should take.”

Hull returned to the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central club for a second time in August 2016 after switching to Royston in January 2016 and Eagles manager Jon Taylor also wished him a speedy recovery in the statement.

He said: “We all hope Tommy makes a swift recovery. As club captain, he will be a miss to our important team spirit, but he knows we are all behind him in however long his recovery should take.”
