Chippenham hosted promoted Banbury United at Hardenhuish Park and a crowd of 377 saw the Bluebirds` colours downed for the first time.
A George Nash goal in the 19th minute gave the Puritans the lead but United received a major set-back on 27 minutes when Andy Gunn was sent-off for a second yellow card offence following an altercation. Chippenham dominated the rest of the half and had chances to equalise before going down to ten men themselves near the end.
Slough Town took full advantage to move above Chippenham on goal difference after they won by the same scoreline at the Bob Lucas Stadium against Weymouth. In front of a crowd of 516, a goal nine minutes from the end of normal time from Warren Harris took the Rebels to the top of the table.
Dunstable Town are second after a more comfortable 4-1 Creasey Park win over St Ives Town but had to come back from being a 15th minute Danny Kelly goal down to win.
Alex Cathline equalised in the 35th minute and five minutes later Danny Talbot put the hosts in front. Eight minutes after the break Dunstable pulled two goals in front through Shane Bush, and Jack Green confirmed the points with number four with 12 minutes remaining.
Leamington are fourth after beating Redditch United 2-1 at the New Windmill Ground.
And again here, the Brakes were forced to come from being a first-minute Danico Johnson goal down to win. Ryan Rowe eventually equalised after 63 minutes and Jamie Hood won it for the Brakes seven minutes from time.
Floodlight failure prevented Merthyr Town from attempting to maintain their good recent form at Penydarren Park against Stratford Town.
There was a first win of the season though for Cirencester Town, although it wasn`t enough to lift them off the foot of the table.
Ciren beat struggling neighbours Cinderford Town by the odd goal in five at the Corinium Stadium. Gethyn Hill gave the Foresters an early seventh minute lead that Ollie Knight cancelled out on the 20-minute mark.
Six minutes later and Hill restored the visitors` lead, but goals from Matt Liddiard on 36 minutes and then Ross Langworthy a minute before the break lifted Ciren 3-2 in front – a lead they held.
Inconsistent Kettering Town showed their positive side on Tuesday as they hammered St Neots Town 5-1 on their own patch.
The Poppies led 3-0 at half-time through a Spencer Weir-Daley brace on 15 and 44 minutes and a Nathan Hicks effort sandwiched between on 38 minutes. Second half goals from Weir-Daley, who completed his hat-trick on 66 minutes, and Wilson Carvalho on 89 minutes completed the Poppies nap hand after Ryan Hawkins had replied for the hosts after 53 minutes.
Biggleswade Town and newcomers Kings Langley have also made somewhat inconsistent starts to the new campaign, but both enjoyed 2-0 home wins on Tuesday.
The Waders saw off King`s Lynn Town, thanks to Craig Daniel, who broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, and then George Bailey three minutes into stoppage time.
Kings defeated a Basingstoke Town side who were four divisions higher in the non-League Pyramid just a couple of years ago. Stephen Ward gave the home side the boost of an early second minute lead that Sean Coughlan doubled five minutes after half-time.
Hayes & Yeading United won 1-0 at Beaconsfield SYCOB`s Holloways Park against Chesham United, thanks to a goal on the half-hour mark from Melford Simpson.
