Striker challenged to up his game

Evesham United manager Paul Collicutt is challenging Lance Smith to score even more goals in the EVO-STIK League Southern after the striker turned down the chance to join Hednesford Town.

The marksman, whose scored seven goals so far this season, decided his future lies at the Jubilee Stadium and helping the Robins secure a place in the play-offs last week after the promotion-chasing EVO-STIK Northern Premier League club served his EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West club with seven days notice of approach for his services.

Collicutt told eveshamobserver.co.uk: “Lance’s decision had given everybody a lift. Now I want Lance to just concentrate on his football. He’s been with me for two full seasons but he hasn’t played out a full season, for whatever reason, whether it’s been illness, injury or unavailability because of work."

Challenging his 25-year-old frontman, pictured, to become an even bigger and better player, he added: “He’s a local lad and he’s a big favourite with the Evesham supporters. On his day, he is as good as anything in the league. I want him to prove what a good player he is on a consistent basis. He needs to be going from getting six or seven out of ten every week to eight or nine every game.”

* The Robins are looking forward to England legend Peter Shilton OBE entertaining fans at an upcoming sportsmen's dinner. The 67-year-old former Leicester City, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Derby County and Plymouth Argyle keeper has been booked as guest speaker for the event at the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday 12 November.

Club officials are also reminding fans that the Evesham United Supporters Club are operating a match day return mini bus service from Evesham High Street to the Jubilee Stadium for all home games this season. The service is non chargeable and open to all fans.
