Phoney war win won't fool Leese

Chesham United manager Andy Leese won't be getting too over confident about his side's chances in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday despite his side's midweek victory at Potters Bar Town in the Southern League Cup.

The clubs meet again with the Generals hosting The Scholars at The Meadow in the fourth and final qualifying round after the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central club's dramatic penalty shoot-out replay win over Bath City.

Even before Tuesday night's 3-2 win at Parkfield in the first round of the league's cup competition, Leese believed the first meeting would be little more than a phoney war with the clubs already paired to meet again four days later in the Emirates FA Cup.

In an interview with getbucks.co.uk he admitted he'd even considered asking his opposite number Steve Ringrose about making a joint approach to officials at the EVO-STIK League Southern about switching the tie to a later date.

Leese, pictured celebrating his side's famous 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers in the first round last season, said: “I did joke with Steve Ringrose we’d look to call the league cup game off for lots of reasons. You don’t want to lose players to injury or anything like that ahead of a big FA Cup tie.”
