And a win for Kings Langley and a draw for Dorchester Town confirmed that Cambridge City join Cirencester Town, Hayes & Yeading United and Cinderford Town in being relegated.
And that was despite winning 3-0 at St Ives against neighbours St Neots Town, who only just escaped themselves.
A crowd of 442 saw goals from Fotsing Pitoula Wabo after just 6 minutes and then Jordan Gent on the hour-mark and Pitoula Wabo again on 74 minutes, seal City`s win.
But their joy didn`t last long as news of Kings Langley`s 1-0 home win against Cirencester came through.
Steve Ward scored the all-important goal for the villagers after 27 minutes in front of a trememdous crowd of 645, many of whom joined the players in celebrating survival (below).
Dorchester achieved their goal of a point in a 1-1 draw at Stratford Town – and it was almost all three as the Magpies broke the deadlock through David Jerrard 10 minutes from time.
But Danny Summerfield equalised a minute from time.
After the final day's action, the play-offs will see Leamington take on Slough Town and Merthyr Town tackle Hitchin Town – both next Wednesday night.
The Brakes finished second, despite losing 4-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium to Weymouth, for whom Stuart Fleetwood netted a hat-trick in the 37th, 44th and 75th minutes, with Ben Thomson adding the other on 55 minutes.
The Martyrs are third and won by the same scoreline at already-doomed Hayes & Yeading.
It was goalless at the break, but immediately after the restart, Cory Jenkins put Merthyr in front. Elliot Richards added a second eight minutes later and then Kayne McLaggon bagged a quickfire brace just past the hour-mark to make it 4-0.
Hitchin and Slough finished fourth and fifth respectively after both shared 1-1 draws on Saturday.
The Canaries fell behind to a 40th minute Aaron Jarvis goal at Basingstoke Town before Matt Lench equalised after 58 minutes.
But at Arbour Park, the Rebels trailed Redditch United, for whom Jack Coates scored after 63 minutes, until three into stoppage time when Liam Enver-Marum levelled.
Elsewhere, champions Chippenham Town celebrated receiving the shield and medals with a 2-0 Hardenhuish Park win over St Ives Town, courtesy of David Pratt after eight minutes and Matt Smith on 25 minutes in front of a crowd of 711.
Banbury United`s excellent season which saw them end in sixth place finished disappointingly with a 2-1 home defeat to Kettering Town, whose teenage Ben Baker and slightly more experienced Aaron O`Connor outgunned Manny Duku`s 71st minute spot-kick.
Tony Burnett bagged a brace with Luke Emery and Graig Daniel also on target for Biggleswade Town in a 4-1 home win over Frome Town, while Claudio Dias and Josh Oyinsan were on target in a 2-0 win for Dunstable Town at Creasey Park against Cinderford Town.
Toby Hilliard, a Michael Clunan spot-kick and Ryan Hawkins were all on the mark for King`s Lynn Town in a 3-1 victory at The Walks over Chesham United after Joe Devaney had given the visitors a ninth minute lead.
