Champs sign off as record-breakers

Chippenham Town signed off in style as record-breaking champions on Saturday before collecting the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division's silverware.

EVO-STIK League Southern director Brian Rose and secretary Jason Mills and were at Hardenhuish Park to present the Bluebirds with one of the biggest trophies in football, pictured, after their 2-0 win over St Ives Town.

After earning promotion to the highest level in their history and setting a new record points total of 103 points in the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division with first half goals from David Pratt and Michael Smith, fans and officials of the club and many others swamped social media congratulating the champions on their history-making success.

EVO-STIK League Southern chairman Terry Barratt and his directors and officers congratulate all at the Bluebirds on winning the championship and promotion to the National League for the 2017-18 season.

* The Bluebirds took time out from celebrating the championship on Saturday night to send their best wishes for a speedy recovery to St Ives Town midfielder Josh Dawkin who sustained a double fracture of the leg in a first half tackle.

The former St Neots Town, Cambridge City, Lowestoft Town, Braintree Town, Cambridge United, Kettering Town and Norwich City wide man was treated on the pitch for nearly an hour before being rushed to hospital as the first ambulance crew to arrive decided more experienced medics were required to deal with his injury.
