Chippenham`s David Platt gave them a great start at the Meadow with a goal inside the opening two minutes. Will Richards added a second 11 minutes later, and although Ryan Blake pulled one back a couple of minutes after that, Jake Andrews` 24th minute penalty ultimately proved enough for the visitors.
It finished goalless at Top Field between the second and third-placed sides – a result that really did neither much use in terms of the title race. Slough Town and Merthyr Town occupy the other two top five spots but only the Martyrs won on Saturday.
Slough suffered a 1-0 defeat at Frome Town, who are still just about in the top five race, albeit outsiders, being nine points behind Merthyr with only 15 points to play for.

Sixth-placed Banbury United trail Merthyr by three points after they were beaten 2-0 at Stratford Town.

Bottom-markers Cinderford Town are still mathematically alive, despite a 3-1 home defeat to inconsistent Kettering Town leaving them 14 points adrift of the safety-mark.
The Foresters have games in hand, but still look doomed after the Poppies came back from being a 42nd minute James Welch goal down to win, thanks to James Brighton after 75 minutes, Aaron O`Connor in the 82nd minute and teenager Ben Baker five minutes from time.
Cirencester Town moved to fourth-bottom spot after a crucial 2-1 Corinium Stadium win over a fast-falling Redditch United side.
Ciren got off to the perfect start when Daniel Demkiv put them in front inside the opening minute. Alan Griffin added a second on 69 minutes but they were made to hang on after Dior Angus pulled the Reds back into the game 13 minutes from time.
Fifth-bottom Kings Langley picked up a useful point from a 1-1 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium against Weymouth, whose Mark Cooper gave them a 12th minute lead that Ollie Cox cancelled out three minutes after half-time.
Dorchester Town are left looking over their shoulders after losing 3-0 at Biggleswade Town, whose Tony Burnett bagged a brace in the 52nd and 77th minutes, sandwiched by a Rhys Hoenes penalty on 67 minutes.
Elsewhere, Matt Partridge scored the only goal after 65 minutes at St Ives Town to give visiting Basingstoke Town all three points, while Jetmir Esso did likewise for Dunstable Town to disappoint the majority in the 567 crowd at The Walks against King`s Lynn Town.
