The 31-year-old former Slough Town and Fleet Town striker, pictured, was snapped up by Crowborough Athletic for their own title chase on Friday after his contract at Cherrywood Road was terminated by a dismayed Boro boss Spencer Day earlier this week with his second-placed team looking destined for the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West play-offs.
Day, who side travel to Hanwell Town on Saturday, said: “Sadly, Eddie recently booked a holiday for the last few weeks of the season and therefore isn’t available for our preparation for the play-offs and it’s best we part company.
“As much as we appreciate that football is not the number one priority in players’ lives, we also have to find a fair balance for the club’s interests. We thank Eddie for his time at Farnborough and wish him all the best for the future.”
Smith, who's also turned out for Chertsey Town, Metropolitan Police and Aylesbury FC, signed for Farnborough last summer after scoring a total of 95 goals in 149 games for Slough Town. His new club are currently second in the SCEFL Premier Division with Smith expected to make his debut for the Crows at AFC Croydon Athletic on Saturday.
