Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

On a Saturday when the frost hit the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division, only six games went ahead but they did include second-placed Chippenham Town`s visit to fellow top five contenders Slough Town, writes Pitchereo's Steve Whitney.

And a crowd of 753 at Arbour Park saw Andy Sandell`s goal five minutes after half-time prove enough to move the Bluebirds to within a point of leaders Leamington.

Merthyr Town moved into fourth spot after a good 3-1 win at inconsistent Kettering Town.

A crowd of 493 at Latimer Park saw the Martyrs get off to a good start with a goal inside eight minutes from Curtis McDonald. And eight minutes later, the visitors` lead was doubled through Eliot Richards.

Rene Howe pulled the Poppies back into the game on 66 minutes but 10 minutes later, Corey Jenkins made it game over with Merthyr`s third.

Banbury United are fifth after beating struggling St Neots Town 2-1 at the Spencer Stadium.

Fifth-bottom Saints took a 21st minute lead through Jevani Brown. However, goals either side of half-time from Conor McDonagh won it for the Puritans.

Biggleswade Town moved up to ninth spot after a 2-0 win at Redditch United.

Jordan Patrick gave the Waders an 11th minute lead that Rhys Hoeness doubled on 24 minutes.

The biggest winners of the day were Weymouth, who inflicted a third successive defeat on King`s Lynn Town in front of 566 of their own fans.

The Terras were three-up at the break with goals from Stuart Fleetwood, Dean Evans and Charlie Davis. Mark Molesley made it 4-0 with 15 minutes remaining and then Chris Shephard added their fifth three minutes later.

Dylan Edge netted a 79th minute consolation for Lynn but Stewart Yetton became Weymouth`s sixth different scorer in the 86th minute.

St Ives Town pushed Kings Langley closer to the bottom-markers after a 2-1 home win in which they were ahead inside the opening minute through Ben Seymour-Shove.

Josh Dawkin eventually doubled the Saints` lead 12 minutes from time, although Kings did respond almost immediately through Jack Waldren.
