Frome fundraiser for triple amputee

More than £72,000 has already been raised in the community for the father-of-two who had to be rescued by the emergency services from scaffolding in Swindon before Christmas with injuries so serious he was put into an induced coma in intensive care where he remains.

The 33-year-old scaffolder, pictured, later underwent a series of operations to save his life including having both hands amputated up to his forearm. As well as losing one leg, doctors were also forced to remove all the toes from his remaining foot after the industrial accident which is being investigated by The Health and Safety Executive.

The EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division club's officials are hoping to fill the coffers of an online Go Fund Me page campaign which was launched by the friends and family of the former Radstock, Larkhall and Paulton Rovers forward when they host 12 local clubs at Berkley Road on Sunday 19 March in an all-day event.

Ian Kennedy, who helped set up the online campaign, has already received several prize donations for a raffle and auction at the tournament at the Special Effect Stadium including a 30 minute Lamborghini ride and pamper days. After quickly smashing an original fundraising target of £20,000, Kennedy is confident they'll hit the new target of £100,000 to pay for rehabilitation and support for Mines and his young family.

He said: "I've had so much donated to the event. Companies have been calling me up and offering items for the raffle and auction. It's all really high-end stuff such as a 30 minute Lamborghini ride and pamper days.

"One of the nicest donations came from LGS Transport Training owned by Leo Stickley. Jamie's partner Harley only has a provisional driving licence and had to have Jamie in the car with her when she drove.

"He obviously can't do that at the moment and so Harley is struggling to get around. Leo and the driving school has offered to give her a free intensive course to get her passed and get her driving again."

He added: "To have your life change in the blink of an eye is devastating for Jamie and all of his family. His life will never be the same and our heart goes out to Jamie and his family because we know the road ahead of him is going to be a difficult one.
