Saturday's Central Division review

By David Watters

Farnborough look determined to make it back to Premier Division level after a 2-0 win at Chalfont St Peter on Saturday saw them lead the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central table by two points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Spencer Day`s side took a 22nd minute lead from the penalty spot, converted by Ed Smith. And they made sure of victory against a Saints side who have now lost four on the spin, with substitute Sam Shaban`s 81st minute strike.

Newcomers AFC Kempston Rovers and Ashford Town (Middx) join Royston Town and Marlow as the remaining top five.

The Walnut Boys had a good 2-1 home win over Egham Town, thanks to a brace from Danny Watson in the 52nd and 63rd minutes after Brendan Matthew had given the Sarnies a seventh minute lead.

The Tangerines won 3-0 not so far away at Arlesey Town, courtesy of Max Webb after 22 minutes, Jack Beadle on the half-hour mark and Mark Bitmead on 56 minutes.

Royston`s won 2-0 at Honeycroft against Uxbridge.

Like London buses, both goals came within a minute midway through the second half from Ryan Towner and John Frendo.

Marlow, however, were held to a goalless draw at home by Potters Bar Town.

But player boss Mark Bartley will probably be happy with that as they finished with nine-men following the dismissals of Jordan Brown and Adam Richards.

Aylesbury United dropped out of the top five after losing 2-0 at another of the newcomers, AFC Dunstable.

The deadlock was broken after 68 minutes with a Josh Humbert effort for the hosts. And they made sure with a 76th minute penalty from Jermaine Hall.

Relegated Histon continue to search for their first win of 2016-17 after going down 4-1 at the Glassworld Stadium to yet another of the new boys, Kidlington.

New signing Eddie Odhiambo gave the visitors an 18th minute lead that Harry McGregor levelled right on half-time. But McGregor was sent-off after 72 minutes and Eddie`s brother Anaclet Odhiambo converted the resulting penalty. He made it 3-0 in the last minute, with Jack Dunmall making it 4-1 in stoppage time.

Louis Stead bagged a brace as Northwood won 2-1 at Love Lane against Petersfield Town.

Stead scored from the spot after 54 minutes and open play 11 minutes later, rendering Danny Simmonds` 93rd minute penalty reply as just a consolation against a Wood side who finished with nine-men and Petersfield ten after late red cards.

Fleet Town`s Pat Cox was another two-goal hero as his side won 2-1 at Calthorpe Park against Beaconsfield SYCOB.

SYCOB took an early seventh minute lead through Ollie McCoy but Cox struck in the 48th and 63rd minutes to turn the game around.

Luke Knight`s 51st minute header eventually proved enough for Bedford Town at Aylesbury FC, while Connor Calcutt netted a hat-trick for Bedford`s neighbours Barton Rovers as they saw off Hanwell Town 4-0 at Sharpenhoe Road.

Calcutt scored in the third, 15th and 64th minute – the last from the spot – with Rod Orlando-Young adding the fourth 18 minutes from time.
