Saturday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

Royston Town could have been celebrating winning the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central title on Saturday had they managed to beat play-off chasing Kempston Rovers and Farnborough lost at Hanwell Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Neither happened, so the Crows will have to wait a little longer before being able to lift a crown that has looked to be theirs for quite some time now.

Royston had a crowd of 301 at Garden Walk for their 4-4 draw and they saw Scott Bridges give their favourites a 14th minute lead from the penalty spot. Recent signing Shane Bush equalised five minutes later for the Walnut Boys but sub Matt Nolan came on and bagged a quickfire brace just after the hour-mark to put Royston 3-1 ahead.

Ashley Fuller reduced that by one on 75 minutes, only for Ryan Ingrey to restore the Crows` two-goal advantage two minutes later. Sam Johnson and Seb Simpson then grabbed two goals in the final two minutes to salvage a very good point for the visitors, who are now sixth, four points behind the top five but with games in hand.

Farnborough won comfortably 4-1 at Hanwell, with Pat Cox helping himself to a hat-trick in the 33rd, 36th and 65th minutes – all after Perry Coles had cancelled out Chris Mills` 22nd minute opener for the hosts, who finished with ten-men following the dismissal of Kyle Watson.

Barton Rovers are third after they inflicted an 8-0 misery on already-relegated Petersfield Town.

Connor Calcutt helped himself to a hat-trick, Elliot Bailey a brace and there were singles for Danny Watson, Tom Smith and Jimmy Hartley.

Fourth-placed Marlow won 2-0 at managerless Fleet Town, thanks to Calam Gallimore a minute before the break and Kameron English just shy of the hour-mark.

AFC Dunstable hold the final play-off spot but were beaten 2-1 at home by lowly Arlesey Town, whose Tony Williams after 72 minutes and Taylor Rhiney two minutes into stoppage time, scored to cancel out BJ Christie`s 43rd minute opener.

Egham Town are still just about in the top five race but could have done without a 1-0 defeat at Thame by Aylesbury United, for whom Jordan Frederick scored after just six minutes.

Second-bottom Histon remain eight points behind third-bottom Aylesbury FC after the two sides shared a 1-1 draw at the Glassworld Stadium, an early fifth minute Jordan Jenkins goal equalised two minutes later by Charlie Hawtin after a defensive mix up.

Elsewhere, Lee Roache bagged a brace as Bedford Town won 2-0 at Potters Bar Town, while Mark Bitmead did likewise for Ashford Town (Middx) at Beaconsfield SYCOB – including a winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Charlie Losasso had equalised for the hosts.

Tom Castle gave Kidlington a 67th minute lead at home to Northwood, whose Myles Stephenson seemingly earned a point for his side with an 85th minute equaliser before Jack Dunmall won it 2-1 for the hosts in stoppage time.
