The first friendly face fans encountered at the turnstiles at the Love Lane Stadium for many years, the Rams stalwart held numerous roles at the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central club for more than 30 years before passing away at his home in East Meon last week aged 70.
Rams chairman chairman Graeme Moir led the tributes to the stalwart, pictured with his wife Norma, on Tuesday in an interview with the Clanfield Post.
He told clanfieldpost.co.uk that the late volunteer will be sadly missed by many at the club ahead of the Rams hosting the reception for his family and friends after his funeral next week.
Mourners are being asked to wear bright colours by his family and Moir said: “I was really sad to hear the news of Bill’s passing. He was one of the club’s most committed supporters – even when he wasn’t feeling well you would still find him on the gate every Saturday.
“Bill always had a view on club matters or matches but his backing for everyone at the club was always 100 per cent. He will be a big loss to us at Love Lane.”
Mr Underwood's funeral takes place at 12.15pm on Wednesday 1 February at at The Oaks Crematorium in Havant.
* Mr Underwood is the second Rams clubman to pass away since the start of 2017 after former committee member and long-time volunteer Brian Hall died in early January.
