Swindon Supermarine F.C Manager Dave Webb and his players will be looking to give their home supporters an early Christmas present of three points when they take on Cinderford Town at The Webbs Wood Stadium this Saturday
Having returned from Barnstaple Town late on Tuesday night with a deserved 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Brad Hooper (pen) an own goal and a header from Aaron Woodley, Marine will look to continue their excellent home record when they take on ‘The Foresters’, who, like Marine, never played last weekend as their home fixture with Evesham Utd fell foul to the weather.
Paul Michael’s side find themselves in a lower position than they would have hoped for, having been relegated from the Premier section of the Southern League at the end of last season and now sit 16th on 20 points from 19 games played so far, whilst Marine have strengthened their promotion push by moving back up to 5th after Tuesday night’s win.
Prior to the Evesham postponement, Cinderford lost narrowly away at league leaders Taunton Town, 0-1, in a game where they spurned several golden opportunities and deserved to return to the Forest of Dean with at least something to show for their efforts.
Marine and Cinderford shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw back on the opening day of the season in August, with defender Ryan Morgan equalising for the Swindon-based side.
Marine boss Webb is expecting a difficult game against a strong, physical side who are the league’s draw specialists, having drawn five of their last six matches and have recently added to their squad with former Merthyr midfielder Ben Watkins and Bristol Rovers youth striker James Spruce joining them this month.
