It was not the start the new regime at Gosport, including a new owner in Iain McInnes, wanted.
The ex-Portsmouth chairman, who only took over at Privett Park on Tuesday, saw the current problems Boro face first hand.
Goals in either half from Jake Jackson and Jon Davies sealed Boro`s fate.
Frome started on the front foot and the pressure finally told after 27 minutes when an Ollie Knight’s cross was met by Jackson, who slid his shot home.
Gosport were better in the second half and Conor Davies flashed a shot over the bar early after the restart and were unlucky not to equalise when they launched a quick break and Jack Breed’s angled shot cannoned off the far post.
Boro continued to plug away and almost scored through Pat Suraci when his swirling cross flashed narrowly past the far post.
But Frome killed off the visitors’ hopes of claiming a point 8 minutes from time through Davies, squeezing a shot from inside the box under Tom Price and into the net.
