Officials at the EVO-STIK League Southern League Central Division's Scholars say their gates are much improved, often tripling their previous attendances since the scheme was started two years ago.
Chairman Peter Waller is urging fans to take up the offer again by sending in a completed application form along with a £10 admin fee. The forms can be downloaded from the club's website and must be submitted ahead of their first home game at Parkfield against Barton Rovers on Tuesday August 9.
The Scholars chairman said: “Last year we had over 130 people sign up and although they didn’t all turn up every week, they knew they could for free if they wanted to. Three years ago we had one game where we had about 35 people there. Our minimum last season was about 70, with an average of around 100 and a high of 200.”
The season ticket adds up to a saving of £168 for a full season of home league games, a financial sacrifice the Scholars are happy to make.
Waller added: “Although there is an element of possible loss of income. People are quite happy to come in and buy raffle tickets, drinks and burgers. Hopefully this year more people will hear about it and the numbers will increase again.”
