Fans and players are men united!

EVO-STIK League Southern Hitchin Town are looking forward to their next fundraising event after donating the proceeds of their efforts on Non-League Day 2016 to Prostate Cancer UK.

Hitchin Town and EVO-STIK League Southern chairman Terry Barratt is pictured with the Canaries squad presenting a cheque for £300 to the charity before their 4-1 win over St Ives at Top Field.

The funds were raised after a bumper crowd of 708 turned out at Top Field to see Mark Burke's side beat Biggleswade United 4-2 in the first qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup with 10 percent of the proceeds from the "pay what you want" tie earmarked for the men's health charity's Men United campaign.

The gate on Saturday 3 September was the third highest attendance in the world's oldest cup competition on Non League Day after the fixture was flagged up on Sky Sports News by presenter and friend of the club David Garrido. His Sky colleague, Spanish football expert and Biggleswade United's director of football Guillem Ballague, presented the Save Top Field Trophy to the Canaries after the win.

Hitchin Town's secretary Roy Izzard later hailed fans who turned out in force and gave so generously on the seventh running of Non-League Day, first staged in 2009 to give Non-League clubs a chance to take advantage of the early season international breaks to welcome fans of Championship and Premier League clubs to their grounds.

Izzard said: "I must thank all the fans who attended for their generosity and many paid £10 while even those who do not normally pay were seen to donate. Thank you again for showing that non-league fans are caring and compassionate."
