However, they had to make the most of that by winning their holiday game on Christmas Tuesday, which they emphatically did, 4-0 against mid-table Bishops Cleeve in front of a sell-out record crowd at Kayte Lane of 1,356.
Cleeve gave the runaway leaders a decent game, however, despite the final scoreline, and they had a real hero in goalkeeper Marc Wright. But he was beaten in the 24th minute when John Mills` free-kick gave him no chance – that was Mills` 20th goal of the season to date.
The Bulls went 2-0 up in the 32nd minute when a looping cross was turned into his own net from close range by Aaron Drake. Rob Purdie added Hereford's third in the 71st minute and they wrapped up victory and a massive thirteen-point lead at the top of the table when Mark Preece headed home in the second minute of stoppage time.
Elsewhere, Bridgwater Town ended a run of nine games without a win to move off the bottom of the table with a 2-1 success at Slimbridge.
And they had to come back from being an early second minute Marley Thomas goal down to win, courtesy of Syd Camper after 63 minutes and then George Sinnott four minutes into time added on at the end of the game.
Tuesday's other game saw Wimborne Town leap-frog hosts Winchester City into eleventh place, thanks to a 21st minute Toby Holmes effort.
