Chairman lays down the law

Foresters chairman Stuart Tait told the club's squad to start behaving themselves ahead of hosting Weymouth on Tuesday night in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight after a loss of discipline at the weekend saw them go down to nine men and a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Hayes & Yeading.

Tait missed the bad-tempered affair at The Causeway in which both captain Josh Nelmes and Blaine Waugh were shown red cards, the skipper dismissed after a second yellow, with joint manager Chris Burns also ordered off the bench for comments made to match officials.

Elected in June after stepping up from vice-chairman, Tait is determined to see last season's EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West champions, pictured, safeguard their reputation for fair play and sportsmanship but doesn't want to kill off his side's passion.

Calling for cooler heads from now on, he said: “Well, now the dust has settled after what was quite a day at Cinderford Town last Saturday I felt it’s was appropriate that I review the performance and discipline presently at the club. I've had many fans and committee members views regarding the discipline and performance, some positive and some not so.

“Although I adore passion in our young side, I will not condone what was seen on Saturday and some matches before this, it's time we got a grip with the discipline on and off the pitch. Last season we held one of the best overall discipline stats in the country and was rewarded for it at the annual AGM and it’s my intention to bring that back.

“Discipline, as many of you know, stems from the top and I include myself in that along with the management team. I started the discussion after Saturday's game with the management team and we all know what our responsibilities are going forward and if no improvement is made then stronger action will be agreed by the committee and enforced immediately."

He added: “As a club this season we have had so many positives and it’s my intention to have many more as chairman, so please may I ask for all your support in being that 12th man and cheer on our management and players on Tuesday night as we entertain Weymouth at home.”
