Rams Man Of The Match: GOLDY CAPELA

Beaconsfield returned to winning ways with a hard earned but deserved victory at Barton, twice coming from behind to claim the points.

Persistent rain had turned the pitch into something of a mud pie in parts which made flowing football impossible but both sides turned in decent displays to make this an entertaining game.

The Rams started brightly, finding some success down the left flank as crosses came in that both Goldy Capela and Andre Costa should have done better with in the first five minutes. Barton’s Andrew Phillips brought a decent save out of Ravan Constable on 21 minutes before Capela and Costa both forced good saves out of Barton’s Matt Finlay on 24 and 28 minutes respectively.

It was the home side, however, who took the lead as a 38 th minute Rams corner was cleared to Sam Oyineran who ran past the visitors defence, saw his initial shot really well saved by Constable but then managed to get to the lose ball first and slot home into an empty net.

The Rams got a deserved equalizer on 44 minutes when Callum Webb shot past Finlay after some good build up play and Beaconsfield nearly went in at half time in front when Aaron Minhas went on a good run through the home defence only to see his shot really well saved by Finlay.

The second half began with Wes Daly having a great free kick saved by Finlay on 51 minutes and then five minutes later Constable was (harshly) adjudged to have brought down a Barton attacker and Andrew Phillips converted the penalty to put the home side 2-1 up.

The Rams were level five minutes later when sub Tre Mitford muscled his way past a defender and sent in a shot that just evaded the diving Finlay. Twelve minutes later sub Baj Pashaj went on one of his trademark mazy runs and curled a beauty past the keeper to put Beaconsfield in front for the first time and they should have extended that lead on several occasions, most notably when Capela chipped wide when well placed on 82 minutes.

For sure not the prettiest of performances for The Rams but one that still reaped a three point reward. The pitch didn’t help and Barton produced a display that belied their lowly league position but The Rams still did enough to keep on Rushden’s tail at the top end of the table.
