Royston Town manager Steve Castle urged his players to maintain their high standards as the Crows entered the Southern Premier play-offs with a 4-1 win at Frome Town on Saturday.

The Crows recovered from 1-0 down with goals from Scott Bridges, Joe Hankins and a brace from Rohdell Gordon to record an impressive victory on the road in difficult conditions

Castle’s side currently occupy the final play-off place with 55 points from their 30 matches, and while Slough Town are sitting one point behind with three games in hand, the manager was full of praise given they were promoted last season.

“The players have got to take all the credit. They are a fantastic group,” Castle said.

“From the goalkeeper, who I believe is one of the best keepers at this level, the defence has been in general solid, with really good performances and some outstanding performances.

“The midfield have been exactly the same, and the forwards more often than not are hitting the back of the net, or are at least testing goalkeepers.

“I’ve mentioned before what a good atmosphere we’ve got here. It makes it a lot easier when you are winning but we’re very pleased that we’re going in a positive direction.

“That said, at the moment we’ve done nothing. We’ve made the board think about even the possibility of getting into the next level straight away, which I think the board are very, very pleased about.

“It would be a real disappointment if things went downhill from now, but with us competing against Hereford, King’s Lynn, Kettering, Slough, Weymouth, they’re all in non-league terms very big clubs that have got a lot better following than us at this moment in time.

“We’ve got a recent history of getting promoted from Step Four to Step Three, and then two or three years before that we were in Step Five.

“We don’t want to run before we can walk, but at the same time I think everyone that’s concerned with Royston is pleased with the progress and going on this upward spiral that we’re all happy with.”
