Dunton, who scored four goals in 11 games during the run-in after returning to the Corinium Stadium from a year down under to help the Centurions battle against relegation, shelved his plans this week while on holiday in the Far East.
A delighted Griffin told fans: “Ellis is currently on holiday in Thailand with his Aussie girlfriend but he has agreed to play for us for another campaign and we are over the moon about that."
No-nonsense defender Dunton, pictured, was a member of the Gloucestershire club's 2013-14 Southern League-winning team and made 183 first-team appearances before leaving for Australia in March 2016 on a year-long visa.
The 23-year-old's first year in Adelaide proved to be eventful. In only his eighth game for State League side Salisbury United he suffered a horrific matchday injury required surgery to remove a testicle but was back playing within weeks.
Griffin also confirmed that centre half Jordan Stoddart and goalkeeper Matt Wieczorek have become his first two expected signings of the summer are completing their moves from Bishops Cleeve on Tuesday.
