Barum to invest

Barnstaple Town are looking to bring in a new U18 squad to help strengthen the club.

Chairman Jasmine Chesters said she hoped to introduce the new team ‘as soon as possible’ and is looking for potential players and managers to come forward.

The need for depth at the club has been highlighted over the course of this season’s campaign.

Barum currently sit second from bottom in Evo-Stik League South West, with just two of last season’s squad still at the club following the departure of Barry Yeo at the end of the last term.

More players have been and gone after Richard Pears stepped down as manager last month, and Chesters and managers Kevin Darch and Dave Griffiths are looking to youth for the future.

Darch said: “We want to change the structure of the club, because there’s nothing to fall back on at the moment.

“We want some youth and we need people to realise it’s not just about the results today.

“We need to do this over a period of time and in three or four years the club will be in a much better place.”
