Signed in September, the central defender, pictured, is back at the Causeway Ground after leaving for a fortnight’s trial with the League Two outfit only days after arriving.
The 21-year-old Welsh defender is now focusing on helping to lift the Foresters off the bottom of the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division table but may not last the season after impressing the coaching staff at Alex and being invited back for another trial in January.
He told gloucestershirelive.co.uk: "The Crewe trial was a bit out of the blue really. I thought I did quite well but my fitness was a bit behind the rest of the boys as they've been in there working since July.
"I was there for just over a week. We did stuff I've done my whole playing career but the experience to be with a first team day in day out was good for me.
"I'm confident I got what it takes, it's just getting the opportunity to show I can do. Crewe said they'd like to invite me back up in January and to keep in touch and let them know how I get on at Cinderford, so that's my goal now."
A former Cardiff City youngster, Watkins represented Wales in the Victory Shield at U17, U18, and U19 levels.
