Veteran skipper takes off

Long-serving Swindon Supermarine skipper Chris Taylor has left the EVO-STIK League Southern club.

The 30-year-old midfielder, pictured, was an integral figure in the EVO-STIK League Southern South & West Division club’s promotion pushes over the past four seasons.

Taylor scored 23 goals in his 3013 appearances for Supermarine and saw his hopes of reaching the top flight dashed for the third time in four years when they lost 2-1 at Taunton Town in last season’s promotion play-off semi-finals.

Manager Dave Webb said: “We just felt it was a good time to go in different directions. He’s a great player who still has a lot to offer.”

Checking in at the Webbs Wood Stadium outfit is midfielder Brad Hooper. The 22-year-old made 35 appearances for Cirencester Town last season, scoring six goals and Webb added: “He is someone who will come into the team and do a good job. I tracked him for a while and tried to get him in last year but that didn’t work out.”
