Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

The floodlights failed again at the New Windmill Ground to prevent leaders Leamington from attempting to increase their advantage at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division table on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

When the lights went out just before half-time, the Brakes were 1-0 down to visitors Kettering Town.

Banbury United missed the opportunity to move into the top five when they were pegged back late on by mid-table Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Puritans led after 25 minutes through Sam Humphreys, and added a second 12 minutes later from Jack Self. Experienced striker Stuart Fleetwood pulled the Terras back into the game right on half-time.

However, it looked as though the visitors were going to hold on for three good points, until Aaron Rodrigues popped up with an 84th minute leveller for the hosts.

Chesham United could also have gone into the top five on goal difference had they beaten another lower mid-table outfit, Stratford Town, at The Meadow.

And the Generals led at the break, courtesy of a goal from Sam Youngs right on the whistle. But seven minutes after the restart, Guy Clark equalised, and Chesham were unable to find a winner.

A brace of spot-kicks from Inih Effiong lifted Biggleswade Town up to eleventh in the table following a 2-1 win at The Walks against King`s Lynn Town.

Effiong gave the Waders a 25th minute lead from the spot. Michael Clunan equalised eight minutes after the break – and that looked like being that - until two minutes into stoppage time when Effiong kept his cool to win it for the Waders from 12 yards.
