Tuesday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Leamington pulled to within two points of EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division leaders Slough Town on Tuesday night after winning 2-0 at Redditch United, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ryan Rowe proved to be the Brakes` hero on the night, bagging a brace in the 34th and 56th minutes.

Third-placed Chippenham Town were beaten 2-1 at the Spencer Stadium by a Banbury United side who are now seventh.

Banbury went in front in the 18th minute when Eddie Odhiambo put Conor McDonagh through on goal and he fired the ball past Darren Chitty. The Puritans were handed a second on 38 minutes when a McDonagh shot was saved by Chitty but found the net via defender Greg Tindle.

Dominant after the break, the visitors pulled a goal back on 65 minutes when a corner from the right was headed home by Will Richards. It was all Chippenham after that but Banbury defended with commitment and held firm.

Merthyr Town are now sixth after a comfortable 3-0 win at mid-table Stratford Town.

Ryan Prosser put the Martyrs in front after 36 minutes. And then a second half brace from Keyon Reffell after 51 and then 87 minutes sealed the visitors` win.

Visiting Cirencester Town saw off bottom-markers Cinderford Town to move to within a point of the safety-mark.

An early third minute Ross Langworthy effort gave Charlie Griffin`s side a boost and then Matt Liddiard`s 69th minute penalty confirmed the points for the visitors.

Basingstoke Town`s young side moved up to tenth after winning 3-0 at the Camrose against Kings Langley.

The visitors, making their first ever visit to Basingstoke, held firm until the 64th minute when Richard Whittingham broke the deadlock from the spot. And then a double from George Hallahan in the final five minutes sealed the home side`s win.

Dorchester Town also gave themselves a boost by beating Frome Town by the same scoreline at the Avenue Stadium.

Jake Smeaton put the Magpies in front after 25 minutes and added a second from the penalty spot 12 minutes later. David Jerrard wrapped up the win for Dorchester with a third three minutes from the end.

One of the worst home records met one of the worst away records as Kettering Town hosted St Neots Town at Latimer Park.

And it ended 2-2, with the visitors – probably stunned to be 2-0 up away from home, thanks to James Hall after 22 minutes and Sam Mulready a minute before the break – conceding their advantage to Poppies goals from Aaron O`Connor after 57 minutes and Wilson Carvalho 17 minutes.
