Tuesday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

Royston Town moved eight points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Division One Central table after a 4-1 win at Ashford Town (Middx) on Tuesday night, writes by Steve Whitney.

The Ash Trees shocked the leaders by taking the lead inside the opening minute from Bayley Mummery. But a Max Webb own goal pulled the Crows level 12 minutes later and five minutes after that they were ahead through Kaan Fehmi.

Danny May made it 3-1 in the 31st minute and experienced striker John Frendo made sure with a fourth goal on 67 minutes.

Barton Rovers are third after a comprehensive 5-1 win over Northwood at Sharpenhoe Road.

Only one goal from Rovers` Jimmy Hartley in the 36th minute separated the sides at the break. But a Connor Calcutt brace on 56 and 65 minutes, sandwiched by a Howard Hall effort on 63 minutes, took the game away from Woods.

Louis Bircham replied on 76 minutes but a second for Hartley four minutes from time made it a nap hand for Rovers.

Second-bottom Histon pulled to within three points of the safety-mark after a goalless draw at the Glassworld Stadium against Chalfont St Peter while Bedford Town`s top five hopes stalled.

They were held to a 1-1 draw at Calthorpe Park by Fleet Town, whose Rob Carr cancelled out Lee Roache`s 28th minute opener for the Eagles with less than a minute of normal time remaining.
