Tough match ahead

Strike force battle looms

Cambridge City take a break from league action this weekend when they host Alvechurch in the Buildbase FA Trophy 1st Qualifying Round.

On paper, the match looks to be a tough one for City as the visitors currently sit third in the Evostik South having won 8 of their 13 league matches this season. They visit Westwood Road on a run of 4 wins from their last 5 matches and progress to this stage of the competition after beating Belper in the last round.

The visitors have a potent strike force in the shape of Josh March and Daniel Dubidat. March scored 36 goals last season as Alvechurch secured promotion from the Midland League Premier Division and has already chalked up 12 goals from 18 games during the current campaign. Meanwhile, Dubidat is a player that City have come up against before from his spells at Bedworth and Redditch and will be full of confidence following his hat-trick against Peterborough Sports in their last game.

On the subject of hat-tricks, the fans who saw the last match for the Lilywhites witnessed a superb 3 goals from Tom Knowles as City overcame the challenge of Arlesey on Monday night. A convincing 7-3 win propelled City up to second in the table, so the game is a real clash of the form teams from their respective divisions.

Knowles looks set to feature again tomorrow. However, boss Robbie Nightingale might be tempted to tweak the starting line-up given the busy league schedule in recent weeks. Nathan Olukanmi may be given more game time, and Ross Paterson may return to the starting line-up after missing out ahead of Buster Harradine on Monday night.
