Swans set to smash record gate

Slimbridge are looking forward to breaking their record attendance at Thornhill Park on Saturday for the visit of runaway EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West leaders Hereford.

Close to 1,000 supporters are expected to pack into the ground for the fixture, an attendance that will come to close to doubling the club's previous best of 525 for an Hellenic League clash with Gloucestershire rivals Shortwood United.

The Swans - whose average crowd of 92 is the smallest in the division - are making the most of the opportunity to host the huge travelling support from the Bulls by laying a beer tent, extra food outlets and toilets. National League neighbours Forest Green Rovers have also lent the club a number of stewards and officials say there will also be an increased police presence to cope with the bumper crowd.

By Friday night, more than 800 tickets had already been sold online for the all ticket game before final sales in person at the ground close at 11am on Saturday morning. Relieved officials also reported that the fixture is expected to beat Storm Doris with no pitch inspection planned in a statement thanking everybody involved in organising a match manager Freddy Ward has called the club's biggest since their FA Vase fifth round tie against Truro City in 2006-07.

A Swans spokesman said: "This is a game that we have been planning for probably about seven months. We hope that you all enjoy your visit to Thornhill Park and would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all our regular volunteers, who work so hard every home game for us, as well as the army of extra people who have generously donated their time to helping us out managing this particular occasion. We literally could not have done this without you."
