Steve Thompson eyes winning return

Great form at home

DORCHESTER Town manager Steve Thompson is seeking to return to “winning ways” when the Magpies entertain Redditch United at the Avenue Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

Thompson’s men suffered a reality check at leaders King’s Lynn last time out, enduring a 3-0 defeat to bring their dismal away league record to one win in 14 games.

However, Dorchester’s home form has been a different story, having taken three wins from their past three games at the Avenue, scoring 13 goals and keeping three clean sheets.

But Thompson is wary of an in-form Reds side that put seven goals past Farnborough on Saturday.

He told Echosport: “We’ve done very well in the last three games so hopefully we’ll get back to winning ways. It will be a very tough game.

“They’re full of confidence after winning 7-1 against Farnborough but we go into it with confidence and hopefully with as many players to choose from as possible.”

Thompson is additionally mindful of not being reliant on good home form as the Magpies aim to rise up the standings from 20th place.

“Our away form isn’t very good at the moment, I’m not sure why that is. We’ve been missing players through injury or illness.
“It’s important that we are winning at home, but if we are to climb up the table we need to start picking up points away from home as well.

“We want the three points and to continue our home form. We have scored nine points (from nine) and moved into an area where if we got a few wins on the spin we could move up a few places
