Star graduate inspiring current crop

The fifth-placed Robins - at home to sixth-placed Mangotsfield United on Saturday in the race to secure an EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West play-off spot - are celebrating the success of ex-Evesham United forward David Accam after he helped former Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger score on his MLS debut in the United States this week for the Chicago Fire in a 2-2 draw with Montreal Impact.

Now 26, Accam was at Evesham's Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium during the 2010-11 season while studying at Hartpury College after turning out for Ledbury Town following his arrival in England and is pictured with the club's then director of football Tom Radcliffe and while winning one of his nine international caps for Ghana.

German legend Schweinsteiger, 32, failed to shine in the Premier League after a glittering career with his national team and Bayern Munich and was made to train alone and with the youth team after Jose Mourinho decided he was no longer part of his plans at United. In Illinois last weekend, Accam helped the World Cup winner take just 17 minutes to prove his worth when the former Robin provided the assist for his headed goal.

Accam went on to enjoy spells in Sweden with Östersund and Helsingborg after leaving Evesham before moving to the United States in December 2014. Ahead of this weekend's play-off six pointer, proud officials at the Robins, already celebrating winning one of March's EVO-STIK League Southern Team of the Month accolades, congratulated their old boy while retweeting media reports of his starring role alongside Schweinsteiger.
