The hosts went in front after ten minutes but Craig Duff equalised from the spot for Taunton and then three goals in six minutes before half-time put them out of reach, with a fifth added late on. Duff and Matt White both bragged braces as the second-placed Peacocks cruised to three points.
Champions Hereford were held to a 2-2 draw at home to lowly Barnstaple Town while AFC Totton, in 20th spot and with the relegation places already decided, put four past Bishops Cleeve.
Nathaniel Sherborne’s double, an own-goal and a spectacular solo effort from Curtis Young, gave Totton something to savour with the end of a difficult season in sight.
Salisbury stayed in third after beating Mangotsfield United 3-1, who finished with ten men. Second half goals from Conor McCormack and Justin Bennett gave Salisbury a deserved win.
Below them, Tiverton Town won 1-0 at home to Winchester City but Evesham United, in fifth, could only drew 1-1 with Bideford. However, their play-off place is effectively secure as they hold a six-point advantage and a superior goal difference over North Leigh, who beat Paulton Rovers 1-0.
Yate Town enjoyed a fine second half at Wimborne Town, scoring three times to win 3-0 and there was something for relegated Wantage Town to celebrate as they saw off Slimbridge, goals from Jack Powell and Mark Francis earning them a 2-0 win and only their third victory at home this season.
Shortwood United, under new interim boss Paul Meredith, won 1-0 at home to seventh-placed Swindon Supermarine thanks to Will Morford’s strike 15 minutes from time.
Elsewhere, Didcot Town won by the same scoreline at Larkhall Athletic as Ben Whitehead’s 20-yard effort deflected past goalkeeper Shaun Semmens.
