Saturday's South & West action review

By David Watters

Hereford attracted a super crowd of 2,683 to Edgar Street on Saturday to see them win again and remain top of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One South & West table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Bulls saw off Bideford 2-1 at Edgar Street with a John Mills brace in the fourth and 27th minutes. But they weren`t able to fully put the Devonians to bed, especially after an 82nd minute Sean Downing header reduced the arrears and led to a nervy last few minutes.

Tiverton Town were second going into their game at Ladysmead against Shortwood United but ended the match in third and overtaken by their visitors after a 2-1 defeat.

Jake Lee gave Shortwood a 15th minute lead that Michael Landricombe levelled nine minutes later. But Antonio Zamora restored United's lead with a 30-yard stunner on 66 minutes, and held firm after having Rhys Lovett sent-off eight minutes from time.

Evesham United and Mangotsfield United complete the top five and both won on Saturday.

United won 2-1 at Barnstaple Town, thanks to Lance Smith after 16 minutes and then Mark Magee on 68 minutes – all after Jamie Mayne had given Barum a 12th minute lead.

The Mangos won by the same scoreline at bottom-markers Wantage Town, also coming back from being a Mark Francis penalty down right on half-time to win with goals from Ryan Bath on the hour-mark and Olly Mehew seventh minutes later.

Swindon Supermarine`s top five hopes took a blow when they were beaten 2-0 at the Webbswood Stadium by Winchester City.

Craig Feeney had City one-up at the break, with Stuart Green making sure with a second in the 83rd minute.

Salisbury FC found some form in winning 5-1 at Plain Ham against a Larkhall Athletic side who began the day ahead of Steve Claridge`s side in the table.

An Ollie Price own goal set the Whites up and running after 15 minutes and Tommy Wright added a second 10 minutes later, only for Joe Raynes to reply less than a minute later. But Justin Bennett immediately after the break, Sam Roberts on 80 minutes and a George Colson effort in stoppage time, made it a nap hand for the Whites to take them into eighth spot.

Third-bottom AFC Totton beat second-bottom Bridgwater Town 2-1 at Testwood Park with a last-gasp winner.

Mike Gosney gave the Stags a 47th minute breakthrough but Craig Laird`s 82nd minute equaliser looked to have earned his dad`s team a point – until Gosney popped up with the home side`s winner three minutes into stoppage time.

Didcot Town came back from being a 24th minute Lee Smith goal down at Slimbridge to win 3-2.

Ben Whitehead levelled on 31 minutes, only for Adam Mace to restore the home side`s lead a minute later. Just four minutes later, James Organ levelled and Declan Benjamin won it for the Railwaymen 14 minutes from time.

The game between strugglers Yate Town and Paulton Rovers looked like ending goalless and ten-aside after dismissals for Rovers`s Nathan Legge and Town`s Charlie Hitchings. But a 95th minute header from Alex Grimshaw won it for the visitors.
