Saturday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

Royston Town maintained their four-point lead at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central table with a comprehensive 4-0 win at Chalfont St Peter on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, pride of place has to go to Histon, who won for the first time this season at the fourteenth attempt – and did it in style too!

The Stutes travelled to Sharpenhoe Road to face a Barton Rovers side who were looking to move into the top five had they won.

Ben Yeomans gave the bottom-markers an early fifth minute lead that Steve Gentle cancelled out eight minutes later. And when Alex O`Brien restored Rovers` lead in the 15th minute, most in the ground sat back waiting for Histon to fold.

But the turning point came on 72 minutes when Gentle was sent-off for deliberate handball. Yeomans converted the resulting penalty and the Stutes went on to score four more with Matt Allan bagging a brace on 73 and 78 minutes and Yeomans adding two more in stoppage time to take his personal tally to four.

Royston found themselves 2-0 up inside eight minutes at Chalfont, thanks to Scott Bridges and Danny May.

John Frendo then made it virtually game over with the Crows` third eight minutes into the second half and Ryan Ingrey added a fourth with seven minutes remaining.

Second-placed Farnborough earned a late Cherrywood Road win over Northwood.

Perry Coles gave Boro a 22nd minute lead that Myles Stephenson eventually cancelled out with 16 minutes left. Sam Shaban popped up with Boro`s winner in the 83rd minute.

Newcomers AFC Kempston Rovers show no sign of blowing up and remain third after a 3-0 win at now bottom side Petersfield Town.

Danny Watson proved the Walnut Boys` hero at Love Lane with a hat-trick in the second and fourth minutes – but had to wait until the last minute to complete his triple.

Marlow are fourth after a Jay Welch goal on the hour-mark earned them a 1-0 home win over Aylesbury FC, who had Ben Stevens sent-off a minute from time.

AFC Dunstable complete the top five after they beat Fleet Town and Ashford Town (Middx) lost 3-2 at Potters Bar Town.

Newman Carney gave the home side a 16th minute lead and Dunstable doubled their lead through Bernie Christie 11 minutes later – a lead they held.

Potters Bar led 2-0 with goals from Ashley Nathaniel-George and Danny Hart at half-time.

But the Tangerines battled back to level through a Jack Beadle brace in the 55th and 62nd minutes. Potters Bar then won it 10 minutes from time, thanks to a Garry Jones penalty, to climb into eighth spot – just two points off the top five.

Kidlington earned a good 2-0 win at the New Eyrie against a Bedford Town side who just can`t seem to get going in front of their own fans.

The newcomers won it with goals from Lewis Coyle on 74 minutes and a Hammed Lawal own goal five minutes into time added on.

Aylesbury United are another side struggling at home, despite starting the game against Hanwell Town in contention for a top five spot.

But the visitors ran out comfortable 3-0 winners with goals from Tyler Christian-Law after 10 minutes, Mark Jamison seven minutes into the second half and then Zak Joseph just a minute later.

Third-bottom Beaconsfield SYCOB earned only their second win of the campaign to date, winning 3-1 at Honeycroft against the team immediately above them, Uxbridge.

All the goals came in the opening 20 minutes, with Charlie Losasso bagging a brace for the visitors, sandwiched by a Ryan Hill effort and Wayne Carter netting for the Reds.

Arlesey Town and Egham Town shared a 1-1 draw in the day`s other game in which Bajram Pashaj gave the Sarnies a 20th minute lead that the hosts cancelled out right on half-time through Arel Amu.
