Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Leamington moved to within a point of EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division leaders Chippenham Town on Saturday after a 2-0 win at the Camrose against Basingstoke Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

With the leaders inactive, the Brakes took full advantage with early goals from Ahmed Obeng after six minutes and Rob Thompson-Brown after 13 minutes eventually proving enough against Terry Brown`s young side.

Third met fourth with Slough Town swapping places with Hitchin Town following a 3-2 win at Top Field.

A crowd of 828 saw Warren Harris give the visitors the boost of an early second minute lead that Guy Hollis added to just five minutes later.

Brett Donnelly pulled the Canaries back into the game seven minutes before half-time but James Dobson`s penalty after 69 minutes sealed Slough`s win, although Kane Smith made it a nervy final 11 minutes when he pulled a second back for the hosts.

Fifth-placed Merthyr Town`s 2-2 home draw with Weymouth gave sixth-placed Banbury United a glimmer of hope after they won 2-1 at the Spencer Stadium against second-bottom Cirencester Town.

In front of 611 at Penydarren Park, Ashley Evans had the Martyrs in front after 16 minutes. Stuart Fleetwood eventually levelled for the Terras 18 minutes from time, only for Kyle Copp`s penalty to restore the hosts` lead five minutes later. Dean Evans earned parity again in the 80th minute.

Banbury led through Luke Carnell`s 18th minute effort at the break.

Conor McDonagh added a second just before the hour-mark, but Daniel Demkiv gave Ciren hope when he reduced the deficit 12 minutes from time. But Charlie Griffin`s side weren`t able to find a leveller.

Cinderford Town are now thirteen points adrift at the bottom after losing 2-1 at home to King`s Lynn Town.

Ryan Fryatt`s brace in the 35th and 90th minutes proved too much for the Foresters, whose Karnell Chambers replied from the spot.

Fourth-bottom Cambridge City suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at St Ives to Frome Town.

Jake Jackson helped himself to a hat-trick for the Somerset side in the 9th, 52nd and 90th minutes.

They remain three points behind fifth-bottom Kings Langley after the newcomers were beaten 1-0 at the Avenue Stadium to a Jon Vance goal for Dorchester Town in the 56th minute.

St Neots Town moved six points clear of the drop zone when a goal eight minutes from time from in-demand Jevani Brown sealed victory at home to Redditch United.

Biggleswade Town won 2-0 at Creasey Park against Dunstable Town with goals from Craig Daniel three minutes after the break and new signing Luke Emery 13 minutes from time, while the other two matches ended 1-1.

Kettering Town`s inconsistent season continued when they were held at Latimer Park by St Ives Town, whose Ben Seymour-Shove`s 54th minute effort looked to have won it for them until Aaron O`Connor popped up with the Poppies leveller six minutes from time.

And Chesham United`s Ryan Blake cancelled out Michael Taylor`s 48th minute opener for Stratford Town 11 minutes from the end to earn a point.
