Saturday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

Royston Town moved seventeen points clear of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Division One Central table on Saturday with only twenty-one points left to play for now, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Second-placed Farnborough do possess a game in hand but it seems only a matter of time before the Crows celebrate winning the title and promotion to the Premier Division for the first time.

Saturday saw Royston enjoy a comfortable 4-0 win at Garden Walk against Chalfont St Peter with goals from Martel Powell on 20 and 86 minutes, Rod Orlando-Young on 69 and Ryan Ingrey on 88 minutes.

Farnborough were 4-2 winners at Chestnut Avenue against Northwood, taking a 10th minute lead through Josh Higgins before falling behind to goals from Louis Bircham from the spot on 36 minutes and James Budden five minutes after the break.

Nic Ciardini on 63 minutes, Ed Smith three minutes later and debutant Scott Donnelly five minutes from time earned Boro`s win.

Marlow, Barton Rovers and AFC Dunstable occupy the remaining top five spots, with Marlow losing 1-0 at third-bottom Aylesbury FC – Ty Deacon scoring the only goal for the Moles nine minutes from time.

That win pushed Aylesbury eight points clear of second-bottom Histon, who lost 2-1 at the Glassworld Stadium to Barton.

Elliot Bailey right on half-time and Connor Calcutt on 64 minutes proved too much for the struggling Stutes, whose Tommy Wright replied four minutes from time.

AFC Dunstable won 4-1 at Calthorpe Park against Fleet Town, with Jermaine Hall bagging a brace along with BJ Christie and James Bishop – Ben Toye replying.

Kempston Rovers and Egham Town are five and six points respectively behind the top five after both won at home on Saturday.

The Walnut Boys were 4-0 Hillgrounds winners over a Petersfield Town side who, although not mathematically relegated, looked doomed in bottom spot.

Sam Johnson`s brace was topped and tailed by Ashley Fuller and Grant Fryer while the Sarnies beat fourth-bottom Arlesey Town 2-1 at the Runnymede Stadium with goals from Bajram Pashaj after 57 minutes and veteran Richard Pacquette a minute from time – Joe Steele replying in stoppage time.

Potters Bar Town are now eighth, a point behind Egham, after winning 3-0 at Ashford Town (Middx) with goals from Michael Murray from the spot after 64 minutes, Chris Doyle on 73 minutes and Rob Hastings three minutes into stoppage time.

Elsewhere, Matty Woods bagged a second half brace as Uxbridge won 2-1 at Holloways Park against Beaconsfield SYCOB, whose Aaron Berry had given them a 32nd minute lead, while Sonny French and Bruno Lobo De Brito were on target as Aylesbury United won 2-0 at Hanwell Town.

Kidlington and Bedford Town shared a 1-1 draw in the day`s other game, with Anaclet Odhiambo`s 32nd minute opener for the hosts being cancelled out by the Eagles` Jemale McKenzie-Lowe two minutes after the break.
