Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Leamington lost the leadership of the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division on Saturday and how, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Brakes were hammered 6-0 at the New Windmill Ground by fifth-placed Slough Town, who took full advantage of the hosts being reduced to nine-men.

In front of a crowd of 665, the visitors led through former Gosport Borough forward Chris Flood after 13 minutes and then Gavin James four minutes later.

Leamington were reduced to ten-men on 31 minutes when Ryan Rowe was shown a straight red card after a wild challenge.

Flood added his second and Slough`s third seven minutes later to send them into the break three-up. Flood completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute but the Brakes` Jack Edwards saw red for a second yellow card in the build-up to the goal. Ashan Holgate on 75 minutes and Simon Dunn two minutes from time completed the rout.

Chippenham Town returned to the summit after a comprehensive 4-0 Hardenhuish Park win over Dorchester Town.

This was simply David Pratt`s day. He scored all of the Bluebirds` goals, two in the first half after four and 44 minutes and two in the second on 48 and 59 minutes.

Hitchin Town are now level on points with Leamington in third, and just two points off top spot after they won 2-1 at fifth-bottom St Neots Town.

Jevani Brown put the Saints in front after 27 minutes. But the lead lasted barely four minutes as Robbie Burns equalised. The Canaries left it late, with Brett Donnelly`s winner coming in the 87th minute.

Merthyr Town are just a couple of points further back after they won 1-0 at Penydarren Park against a now sixth-placed Banbury United, a crowd of 529 seeing Kayne McLaggon`s 73rd minute effort prove decisive.

Frome Town show no signs of falling away and are now level on points with Banbury in seventh after a 3-1 home win over Stratford Town.

A third minute Jean Kalenda own goal and a 33rd minute Jon Davies penalty gave Frome a half-time advantage. Michael Taylor cut that to one on 68 minutes, only for Davies to make it 3-1 with six minutes remaining.

However, Chesham United`s top five hopes took a blow when they were beaten 3-1 at St Ives by a now third-bottom Cambridge City side who are only two points behind neighbours St Neots.

After falling behind to a 16th minute Sam Youngs effort, Jordan Gent equalised after 32 minutes. And then a brace from new signing Matthew Foy after 39 and 44 minutes sealed City`s vital win.

Bottom side Cinderford Town are almost looking for snookers already after a 3-0 defeat at the Bob Lucas Stadium against Weymouth left the Foresters fourteen points from safety.

Stuart Fleetwood, who signed to remain a Terra until the end of the season on Friday, gave the hosts a 29th minute lead that Chris Shephard added to just before the break – Fleetwood`s second on 56 minutes sealing the win.

Cirencester Town remain fourth-bottom after going down to a 3-2 home defeat to Basingstoke Town.

Matt Liddiard gave the home side an early seventh minute lead they held until nine minutes into the second half when Nana Owusu equalised.

Henry Spalding restored Ciren`s lead on the hour-mark but Aaron Jarvis levelled five minutes later and then a second for Owusu seven minutes into stoppage time won it for `Stoke.

Biggleswade Town, who lost top marksman Inih Effiong to Barrow AFC in midweek, won 3-1 at home against St Ives Town with goals from Craig Daniel after 48 minutes, Rhys Hoeness on 65 minutes and a spot-kick converted by Connor Hall a minute from time – and all after Dubi Ogbonna had given the Saints the lead five minutes before half-time.

Adam Pepera`s 17th minute goal proved enough for Dunstable Town at Creasey Park against Redditch United, while Kings Langley and King`s Lynn Town shared a 2-2 draw in Hertfordshire.

A third minute Mayowa Balogun own goal gave the Linnets the lead but goals from Steve Ward after 12 minutes and a Lewis Toomey penalty on 62 minutes took the hosts ahead, with Shaun McWilliams levelling 13 minutes from time.
