Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Leamington hold a three-point lead at the top of the EVO-STIK League Southern's Premier Division table after they beat Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Brakes won 2-0 at the New Windmill Ground in front of a crowd of just over 400, thanks to a Tom Broadbent own goal after 17 minutes and then Ryan Rowe after 37 minutes.

Chippenham Town are second after they hammered second-bottom Cambridge City 5-0 at Hardenhuish Park.

It was only 1-0 at the break, courtesy of a 21st minute Andy Sandell goal. But just four minutes after the restart Matt Smith added the Bluebirds` second and a Sandell penalty on the hour-mark made it game over.

Will Richards and David Pratt made it a nap hand in the final seven minutes.

Third-placed Slough Town, however, were held to a 2-2 draw at Arbour Park by newcomers Kings Langley.

A crowd of 513 saw the Rebels rescue a point in dramatic fashion after being 2-0 down to goals from Jerry Amoo after 65 minutes and a David Hutton long-range effort on 81 minutes.

But Warren Harris pulled Slough back into the game in the last minute and in the seventh minute of stoppage time, Charlie Moone popped up with the home side`s leveller.

Merthyr Town and Hitchin Town complete the top five, but only the Martyrs managed a win, 1-0 at Creasey Park against Dunstable Town thanks to a goal right on half-time from Ian Traylor.

The Canaries were held to a goalless draw at Top Field by Kettering Town while sixth-placed Frome Town will also be disappointed to have been held to a 1-1 home draw by lowly St Neots Town.

But considering it wasn`t until five minutes from time that Jon Davies managed to cancel out Declan Rogers` 53rd minute opener for the Saints, perhaps the Somerset side will be glad of one point.

Bottom-markers Cinderford Town suffered a sixteenth defeat in nineteen games, this time 1-0 at St Ives Town, whose Danny Kelly scored the crucial goal in the 18th minute.

Fellow strugglers Cirencester Town suffered a 6-0 drubbing at Biggleswade Town, for whom it was a special day for striker Tony Burnett, who scored four of them, with Connor Hall and Inih Effiong adding the other two.

Basingstoke Town won 2-1 at the Camrose against Stratford Town, whose Richard Gregory gave them a 12th minute lead.

Rob Atkinson equalised in the 28th minute and Nana Owusu won it for Terry Brown`s young side seven minutes from time.

Dorchester Town earned a crucial odd goal in five Avenue Stadium win over Chesham United to move three points clear of the drop zone.

Veteran defender Darren Purse gave the Generals an eighth minute lead that Jake Smeaton eventually levelled from the spot two minutes after half-time.

Four minutes later, the recently returned Franklyn Clarke gave the Magpies a lead that Drew Roberts cancelled out from the spot on 65 minutes. But Ollie Bassett won it for the home side in the second minute of time added on at the end of the game.

Redditch United also left it late before beating Dorchester`s neighbours Weymouth 2-1 at home.

The Terras led through Stewart Yetton`s 10th minute opener until the 79th minute when Solihull Moors` loanee Simeon Cobourne levelled. And then two minutes later, Danico Johnson won it for the Reds.

Elsewhere, a 75th minute Toby Hilliard goal earned King`s Lynn Town the verdict at The Walks against seventh-placed Banbury United.
