Saturday's Central Division action review

By David Watters

With Royston Town already crowned champions of the EVO-STIK League Southern Division One Central, Saturday's focus fell on the clubs pushing for a play-off place and fighting not to go down with Petersfield Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The play-off race is down to four from six sides, with Farnborough already assured of finishing second. Barton Rovers, Marlow and AFC Dunstable currently occupy the other top five slots, with Egham Town and Kempston Rovers still in with a chance.

Barton suffered a 1-0 Sharpenhoe Road defeat to Farnborough, for whom Sam Pearce scored after 11 minutes.

Marlow beat Bedford Town 3-1 at home, thanks to goals from Nathan Poulton after just four minutes and then, after Ryan Auger had equalised just past the hour-mark, a brace of penalties converted by Chris Overton in the 72nd and 88th minutes sealed victory.

Both spot-kicks led to Eagles' dismissals – Mark Clifford for the first offence and keeper Enol Ordonez-Suarez for the second.

AFC Dunstable kept Egham interested after losing to the Sarnies 2-1 at Creasey Park.

Elliott Carey opened the scoring for Egham after 14 minutes and Brendan Matthew added a second 11 minutes after half-time, with Adiel Mannion replying 12 minutes from time.

Kempston, who have a game in hand, were beaten 3-1 at Ashford Town (Middx), for whom Mark Bitmead bagged a brace in the 23rd and 54th minutes before Dan Fleming added a third 15 minutes from time – Russ Canderton`s own goal four minutes from time all the Walnut Boys could muster in response.

At the other end of the table, second-bottom Histon are still alive after winning 3-2 at the Glassworld Stadium against Uxbridge and are four points behind Northwood and six behind Aylesbury FC.

After trailing to Anthony Thomas` 23rd minute opener, Histon turned that over in the second half to lead 3-1 with goals from Lewis Clayton after 51 minutes, Simon Unwin after 74 minutes and James Carman two minutes later. Abobaker Eisa`s penalty for the Reds came 4 minutes into stoppage time.

Northwood were held 0-0 at Holloways Park by Beaconsfield SYCOB, while the Moles won 2-0 at Arlesey Town, thanks to a brace from Aston Goss in the 37th and then three minutes into time added on at the end of the game.

Elsewhere, Tom Hunt bagged a brace to help Hanwell Town win 4-1 at home to relegated Petersfield – Zak Joseph and Dean Allen topping and tailing Hunt`s efforts, with Matt Andrews replying.

Jake Cass was another two-goal man for Chalfont St Peter as they won 3-2 at Thame against Aylesbury United, whose Bruno Lobo De Brito and Lea Counter had them 2-1 ahead before Tony Mendy grabbed the Saints` winner three minutes into stoppage time.

Lewis Gabbidon, Anaclet Odhiambo and Lewis Coyle were all on target as Kidlington won 3-0 at Potters Bar Town.

Champions Royston were held to a 1-1 draw at Calthorpe Park by Fleet Town, whose Ben White cancelled out John Frendo`s 34th minute opener for the Crows on the hour-mark.
