John Frendo topped and tailed the scoring in the 37th and 89th minutes, with Ryan Ingrey matching the well-travelled striker in the 55th and 75th minutes, Scott Bridges` 67th minute penalty sandwiching them.
Second met third at Cherrywood Road where Farnborough edged out AFC Kempston Rovers 3-2 with goals from Perry Coles after three and 52 minutes and Dennis Oli in between on eight minutes.
But they were forced to hang on as the Walnut Boys pulled two back in the final seven minutes from Danny Watson and Sam Johnson.
Barton Rovers and AFC Dunstable complete the top five, but only the latter won, 1-0 at Holloways Park against Beaconsfield SYCOB, thanks to Adiel Mannion six minutes from time.
Rovers were involved in a 6-3 defeat at Ashford Town (Middx), who are now sixth.
Elliot Bailey netted a hat-trick for the visitors but it was in a losing cause as Kameron English matched him for the Tangerines and Mark Bitmead bagged a brace with Dan Fleming netting the other.
Bedford Town found themselves 3-1 down at the New Eyrie to Uxbridge before earning a point.
Kevin Warner and Wayne Carter had the Reds 2-0 ahead before the break and then George Boland replied shortly after half-time, only for Jon-Jo Bates to make it 3-1 shortly afterwards. But Jamale McKenzie-Lowe and new boy Nathan Tshikuna responded in the final 18 minutes to salvage a draw.
Histon remain win-less but at least managed to pick up only their second point of the campaign from a 1-1 draw at Hanwell Town, whose Tyler Chrsitian-Law gave them a 10th minute lead that Elkanah Sibanda replied on the half-hour mark.
Chris Moore and Zak Joseph scored in the 35th and 88th minutes respectively to earn Egham Town a Runnymede Stadium win over a now seventh-placed Chalfont St Peter while Potters Bar Town had Ryan Forde on target twice in their 3-1 home win over Arlesey Town, whose Jack Vasey netted a late consolation after Ashley Nathaniel-George had added a third for the Scholars.
Kidlington beat second-bottom Petersfield Town 3-1 at home with Lewis Coyle, Elliott Osborne-Ricketts and Anaclet Odhiambo outgunning a late Alfy Whittingham effort for the visitors.
Andy Lomas gave Northwood a 19th minute lead at Chestnut Avenue against Fleet Town, whose Pat Cox equalised right on half-time – and that`s how the scoreline remained.
The game between Aylesbury United and Marlow was abandoned due to a serious injury to the Ducks` Ollie Hogg.
