Farnborough will be much the more disappointed after being held to a 3-3 draw at Cherrywood Road by lowly Arlesey Town.
The home faithful were shocked when the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead with a brace from Jack Vasey in the 20th and 38th minutes. New signing Perry Coles reduced the arrears just before the break and then Ed Smith equalised three minutes after it.
But Arlesey battled on and once again took the lead through Dom Morgillo just past the hour-mark. Coles rescued Spencer Day`s side with the leveller and his second of the game with 11 minutes remaining.
Newcomers Kempston were involved in an even more exciting 4-4 draw a Chestnut Avenue against mid-table Northwood, who must have thought they`d won it when leading 4-0 by the 49th minute!
Louis Stead from the penalty spot twice, sandwiching a Ryan Debattista brace gave Wood their commanding lead. But the Walnut Boys produced a tremendous comeback in the final 20 minutes. They scored what looked like being just a consolation through Jermaine Ivy.
But the Walnuts grew in confidence and grabbed two goals in as many minutes through Seb Simpson after 79 minutes and then top scorer Danny Watson. Ten minutes passed, and it looked as if a fourth goal looked one too many for the boys. However, in the fourth minute of added time, the ball fell to Sam Macrae on the volley who drilled it home from 20 yards to earn an unbelievable draw.
Chalfont St Peter made up a couple of points on the top two in third after winning 2-1 at lowly Kidlington.
Goals either side of half-time from Kofi Lockhart-Adams and then Charlie Strutton gave the Saints a two-goal advantage. Anaclet Odhiambo pulled one back for the hosts just past the hour-mark but they were unable to find a leveller.
Royston Town are fourth and level on points with Chalfont after beating Marlow 4-2 at Garden Walk.
The Crows had the points virtually sewn up by half-time after goals from Kaan Fehmi after three minutes, Adam Murray on the half-hour mark and Ryan Towner six minutes later.
It was game over four minutes into the second half when Fehmi added his second, and although Marlow pulled two back from Jay Welch and Chris Ovenden, they weren`t able to match Kempston`s feat at Northwood.
Barton Rovers complete the early season top five after Charlie Smith`s goal right on half-time eventually proved enough to win at Aylesbury United, who dropped to ninth.
Ashford Town (Middx) are sixth after a Mark Bitmead brace in the 18th and 24th minutes – the second from the spot – proved enough at home against Uxbridge.
Bedford Town made it four unbeaten after a comfortable 4-1 New Eyrie win over second-bottom Petersfield Town.
Nathan Frater`s 16th minute opener for the Eagles was quickly rubbed out by Jordan Geddes. But second half goals from Luke Knight from the spot, Lee Roache and Phil Draycott made it a good day for the hosts.
Hanwell Town were staring at a 2-1 home defeat by Fleet Town as they headed into stoppage time at the end of the game.
Pat Cox and Simba Mlambo had cancelled out Joe Chandiram`s goal for the hosts. But as the clock ticked into overtime, Will Turl equalised and then five minutes into added time, Courtney Austin popped up with Hanwell`s winner.
Aylesbury FC and AFC Dunstable shared a 2-2 draw in the day`s other game.
The Moles had a great start when Kieran Turner put them in front in the 2nd minute. Mark Lambert doubled their lead after 19 minutes, but on a day of comebacks, the visitors had a Jordan Jenkins own goal right on half-time and then Bernie Christie on 64 minutes to thank for earning a point.
