Before their promotion rivals climbed above them in the table with a 3-2 win in front of a bumper crowd of 828, the Canaries pulled out all the stops with forces radio station BFBS broadcasting live from Top Field as the British Legion marched the matchball onto the pitch before kick-off.
Organised like the annual Armed Forces Day celebrations to recognise the contributions of past and present members of the military, veterans and serving personnel received free entry to the fixture which featured a half-time display from the Bedfordshire Air Cadets, the Henlow Air Cadets and the Hitchin Army Cadets.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of RAF Henlow in Bedfordshire, fans were also treated to a special display and donated generously to a charity collection for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Hitchin's now annual‘Forces Day’ initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Canaries to engage with their Hertfordshire community. Other success stories include their ‘Ladies Day’ and 'Community Day’ initiatives.
* The Canaries are looking forward to meeting Ryman League Cheshunt in the Herts Charity Cup Final at Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday 28 March.
