Puritans pay for promotion push

Banbury United have paid a heavy price for kick-starting their bid for a promotion play-off spot with their 1-0 victory at Hayes & Yeading United in the EVO-STIK League Southern's top flight.

Puritans manager Mike Ford has been forced to rule right-back Callum White out of his plans for his sixth-placed side's remaining fixtures after he suffered a serious impact injury in last weekend's victory.

Officials at the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division club say the 21-year-old former Norwich City youngster only realised he's been hurt more seriously than he'd thought on Sunday night after feeling acute discomfort.

Following a consultation with doctors, the defender, pictured, was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Birmingham where he remains for ongoing observation while having tests and treatment.

White, who joined the Oxfordshire club in August 2015, was wished a speedy recovery by the Puritans on Thursday in a statement updating fans on his condition.

A spokesman said: "It is with much disappointment and regret to have to advise supporters that our full back Callum White is out for the rest of the season. If all goes to plan Callum hopes to be out over the next couple of days but after advice from doctors on any further physical contact, he has to endure an early end to the season.

"That means we will not have the joy of his marauding right wing surges over the remaining games but all involved at Banbury United Football Club wish him a speedy recovery with the best of wishes and we look forward to seeing him in the Puritans colours in the future."
