Pugsley stepping down in weeks

By David Watters

Chris Pugsley has announced he is standing down as chairman of EVO-STIK League Southern Weymouth at the end of the season.

The Terras chairman since succeeding Nigel Biddlecombe in September 2014, Pugsley is set to officially resign on Sunday 30 April, two weeks after the club's EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division campaign comes to an end.

Pugsley, pictured, revealed he was stepping down at the end of the month but may stay on in an alternative role at the Bob Lucas Stadium in an exclusive interview on Monday with the Dorset Echo.

Speaking after Weymouth's 1-1 draw at Dunstable Town at the weekend, the Terras chairman told dorsetecho.co.uk: “I have notified the board that I will be stepping down at the end of April as chairman. It is a massive commitment and it’s a commitment I have done for almost three years now. I just need to take a back seat and do other things in life which I enjoy doing.

“Going on from there I don’t know, I have offered my services in other roles within the club but, at this moment in time, I don’t know whether that will happen or not. That will be decided over the next few weeks.”

Pugsley first hinted at a fans’ forum in April 2016 that he was considering stepping aside to focus on football matters and helping player-manager Jason Matthews, a position he reiterated to the Dorset Echo at the start of the season.
