Didcot suffered a further setback as they were drubbed 4-0 by league leaders Taunton Town at the Loop Meadow on Saturday.
The first half was closely contested with only one goal in it; however, the Peacocks did appear to have more in their locker and they strutted their stuff after the interval, ultimately running out wide margin winners.
Didcot were visibly stung by the second goal and their Somerset opponents took full toll, ruthlessly adding two more goals to kill the game off. Ryan Brett’s corner caused total confusion in the Diddy penalty area and Wright headed in unchallenged to put the Peacocks three ahead; the Taunton captain also notched the fourth goal after Sullivan found him with a pin-point through ball.
Bedwell pulled off two decent saves to keep the score down but by the final whistle Taunton had earned a commanding victory. The result knocked Didcot down to seventh place in the table but perhaps more importantly emphasised they are currently some way short of competing at the highest standard of the league.
Another tough test awaits next weekend at fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol Manor Farm, but before then Diddy engage in a local battle at Kidlington in the second round of the league cup.
