The ex-Republic of Ireland frontman left the Valley Stadium this week with the best wishes of manager and good friend Darren Byfield, citing travelling and personal issues.
Morrison scored more than 150 goals in his 18 years in the Football League and the Premier League at a number of other clubs including Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday, Milton Keynes Dons, Brentford, Colchester United and Exeter City, as well as nine in 36 internationals.
The 37-year-old's arrival generated plenty of publicity for United this summer following his release by the League Two Grecians at the end of last season. Pictured alongside Byefield after signing in June, he played a full part in pre-season before scoring in the 3-1 home win over Chesham United on the opening day of the EVO-STIK League Southern Premier Division campaign.
After playing in the 4-2 success at Stratford the following Tuesday, Morrison, who has increasing media commitments, played in his final game at Weymouth on Saturday when United went down 1-0 to an injury time Terras penalty.
Byefield told fans there was no animosity between the pair in a statement on club's website ahead of his side's trip to King's Lynn Town on Saturday.
The Reds manager said: "I don’t think anyone can question Clinton’s commitment, he played almost all our games in pre-season and our league games. But he’s got a lot going on in his life at the moment, so we had a chat and decided he’d move on. There’s no hard feelings, Clinton has been great.”
