Next stop Dunstable

Clements making changes

A narrow midweek defeat away at Royston restored some of the confidence in the St Neots side that had been glaringly missing during last weekend’s home reversal.

Manager Matt Clements had promised a shake up of his squad and he made four changes and that second half improvement on Tuesday almost earned a share of the points.

However, after the match news filtered through that Dunstable Town, the Saints opponents on Saturday had pulled off one of the shocks of the season by defeating high flying Weymouth by the odd goal in three. It was only the Duns third victory in thirty league matches this season and it is no doubt that they will go into this weekend’s visit from St Neots looking to maintain this improved form.

They will take comfort from the fact that they have won their last two home clashes with the Saints and they will be looking to climb further away from bottom markers Gosport Town who lost again in midweek. With just one relegation this season it is already shaping up to be a battle of the bottom two despite the fact that there is a third of the season left.

St Neots are likely to welcome back charismatic skipper Luke Knight after serving his two-match suspension because he will add experience and steel into midfield, whilst there may not be too many more changes for St Neots’ trip down the A6. Clements was philosophical about the recent heavy home defeat. "We have analysed where we went wrong and although that was one of the worst performances by a St Neots side since I took over" he said, "It is time to move on and rediscover what we do best".
